Sacramento, California in the middle of August is stunning, especially if you like the heat, which luckily, I do! Over the summer, my fiance and I stayed at the Kimpton Sawyer Hotel in downtown Sac during our four-day visit. The hotel was located right in the middle of Sacramento’s DOCO shopping center, making it the perfect location to explore the city without having to rent a car.
The building itself was dazzling, and I knew as soon as we walked in that we wouldn't have to worry about a thing during our stay. The service was impeccable! After we arrived in the late afternoon, we were quickly checked in and served a glass of champagne as IHG® One Rewards members. There was also an option to check in online. The decor in the lobby was chic yet minimal, a mix of concrete and wood accents with lots of plants filled the space.
We headed up to our room which featured a king-size bed and a view of the Golden 1 Center. I don't know if it was the jet lag or the comfortable bed, but I was knocked out within minutes of getting settled in the room. The room had an elegant look with marble-style countertops and lots of storage space. The bathroom was more of a mud room since the open glass shower door let water and steam into the space. The room was equipped with a fully stocked mini-bar, robe, and other accessories one may need while on vacation.
One drawback of staying at the Kimpton is that they do not serve a substantial breakfast each morning. Instead, the hotel opts to serve coffee and tea each morning. The building does house a restaurant called Echo & Rig which serves breakfast between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m. There is no shortage of breakfast spots to try in the city and within walking distance of the hotel, including Punch Bowl Social right around the corner. Room service is also a great option for a quick morning meal.
My favorite spot in the whole hotel was the rooftop pool! My fiance and I spent most of our evenings at Sol Blum, an R&B music festival, but after breakfast, we would head to the pool to soak up the sun and grab drinks and lunch. The pool deck featured cozy couches and lounge chairs or cabanas that can be reserved for larger parties. The service was a little slower during lunch, but the drinks were heavenly and the food was divine. The menu featured snacks and meals to fit any preference.
Overall, I would certainly recommend staying at The Kimpton Sawyer during your next trip to Sacramento. The excellent service guarantees you will be comfortable and the location ensures you get a chance to explore the city. Make sure to enroll as an IHG® One Rewards member when you book your stay to get some extra perks including free wifi and extra points.
