Self Care for Students on the go​

As the semester winds down I have noticed that I have less and less time to myself.  With homework and projects picking up, I often spend most of my time in the library or in class.  I‘ve started to find myself skipping meals to get in those last few moments of studying or staying up until the crack of dawn to finish assignments.  While it is very important to get assignments in on time and produce your best work, this does not mean you have to sacrifice your mental health or your sleep.


The first thing that usually gets cut out of my routine when the workload starts increasing is exercise.  Working out a few times a week will not only improve your physical health but will greatly improve your mental health and energy levels as well.  Unfortunately, as schedules become busier, many college students don’t have the time or energy to make it to the gym.  One solution to this is to add short workouts to your daily routine.  According to Health and Fitness for Busy People, There are several simple exercises and stretches that you can do while sitting at a desk to shake off that tired and groggy feeling between or during classes.  Another good tip is to take the stairs whenever possible, using the stairs and talking short walks can help you to feel more energized and alert during classes.

Another great way to work your self-care routine into your busy schedule is to utilize therapeutic essential oils.  Using essential oils allows you to take a moment and focus on yourself at any time.  If you’re feeling stressed in class, take a moment to breathe in the scent of lavender to melt your stress away.  There are many different oils and using different blends or scents can have different effects on your mood and energy.  Watch the following video to learn about the specific types of essential oils and what they do:
